LEGEND MODEL BOATS

For M.A.C.K. Products founder Rich Koll, modeling wasn't merely a hobby: It was a passion, a calling, a vocation. 

A highly skilled marine mechanic, Rich gained his wealth of knowledge from working on full-scale vessels during his service in the U.S. Navy and years spent building, restoring and running boats alongside the other talented engineers in his family. He turned pro in the early 1980s, developing accessories, radio components and power packages to enhance other manufacturers' model boats. From there, he began designing his own kits — issued under the Legend Model Boats label — with a special emphasis on the midcentury mahogany beauties of his youth. 

At the time of his death at age 80 in August 2025, the Legend fleet comprised 10 vessels — 12, if you count the 1955 Owens Flagship 35' bridge sedan and the 1958 Higgins Magnum 18' speedboat, which never made it past the design stage. On his deathbed, Rich famously told his family, "I've gotta get better so I can get back into the shop. I've got plans for 10 more kits!"
