CHICKIE IV
LEGEND MODEL BOATS
Length = 31.5 inches
Beam = 10-3/4 inches
Scale = 1/6
Originally built as a 2-liter race class boat, this beauty changed over the years to become a two-person speedster. It was a 15.5-foot stepped hydro that could go 50 miles per hour back in 1939.
This kit is a faithful reproduction of the CHICKIE IV, a fully restored 1939 Thunderbolt one-step hydro, and one of the rarest Thunderbolts ever built. This double-planked, all-wood model is made from laser-cut mahogany, balsa and light plywood.
As with all Legend Model Boat kits, you get all the extras: working engine hatch hinges; a custom dashboard with gauges, windshield and deck gaskets; chrome-plated custom castings; machined aluminum fittings; and a complete graphics set consisting of the CHICKIE IV logo, name and numbers. As always, we even include an easy-to-build stand!

LEGEND MODEL BOATS
Length = 30-1/4 inches
Beam = 12-1/8 inches
Scale = 1/6
The cracker box style was first introduced in the 1940s after World War II and quickly became a favorite for the home builder. With its simple design and good-looking profile, the two-seater was reminiscent of the classic racing runabouts.
The model can be built as a full-fledged racing runabout with the supplied mahogany planking or strictly as a competition boat (leave off the mahogany planking and fiberglass over the balsa sub-planking). The kit includes all laser-cut parts accompanied by a detailed instruction booklet filled with step-by-step photos and, separately, detailed CAD drawings of the various assemblies.
The pictures on this page show the model with a true 1/6-scale Chevy 283-cubic-inch V-8, using a modified Revell motor kit, available at your local hobby shop or online.
MISS SEVERN
LEGEND MODEL BOATS
Mark Mason undertook to reproduce Miss Severn in 1994 as she was last campaigned, and it is with his help and support that we bring you this scale model kit.
Length = 39-3/8 inches
Beam = 9-3/16 inches
Scale = 1/8
Rule changes for the 1922 American Power Boat Association's Gold Cup races placed limits on engine and hull types and sizes, creating a new class of speedboats that came to be known as “gentlemen’s runabouts.” A number of new designers and engine builders entered the newly formed Gold Cup class to vie for the cup. The boat that won was a Packard Chris-Craft, but the second-place boat — ARAB VI, a John L. Hacker design — came away with the fastest recorded lap time.
Motor Boating Magazine hired Hacker to design a boat along the lines of the ARAB VI. The plans were printed in the pages of the magazine, free to anyone with the skills to bring it to life and the drive to compete for the Gold Cup. The design was named MISS A.P.B.A., after the Gold Cup's governing body.
ARAB VI raced for a number of years but never attained the Gold Cup; the boat then slipped out of sight for a period of about 10 years. During this time, the Gentlemen's Runabout Class started to wane, and the A.P.B.A. again changed its rules, allowing for unlimited engine size, plus hulls with lifting-strake bottoms.
The ARAB VI re-emerged as MISS SEVERN, this time with an unlimited Curtiss Conqueror V-12 engine.

One of the rarest Chris-Crafts ever built, these boats were sold with a warning: "For racing only." The one-step hydro was equipped with a 121-horsepower, 6-cylinder KB engine, giving it a top speed of more than 50 miles per hour.
The kit is planked with mahogany over Sintra® PVC. You too can own a rare one!

The painted racer is a fine example of the painted runabouts of the 1930s and '40s. Its red, white and blue paint scheme, along with the rich mahogany accents, separate this kit from others in the line.
Since this is a painted model, the use of mahogany veneer is limited, which translates to an attractive price point and makes this kit a great value. Construction consists of balsa strip planking over laser- and die-cut frames. Besides the basic construction differences, this kit includes all the bells and whistles you've come to expect from a Dumas Chris-Craft kit: step-by-step instructions, flags, decals, chrome-plated fittings, aluminum accents, and complete drive-line hardware.
